- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup apple cider
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- For the glaze: 1 cup powdered sugar, 2-3 tablespoons apple cider, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together egg, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Stir in the apple cider until the batter is smooth.
- Heat about 2-3 inches of vegetable oil in a large, heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Using a donut cutter or two spoons, carefully drop dollops of batter into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pot.
- Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown.
- Remove donuts with a slotted spoon and place on a wire rack set over a baking sheet to drain.
- While the donuts are still warm, whisk together powdered sugar, apple cider, and vanilla extract in a small bowl to make the glaze.
- Dip each donut into the glaze, or drizzle it over the top. Let the glaze set before serving.
Notes
- For crispier donuts, fry them for an extra minute on each side.
- You can add a pinch of ground cloves to the batter for extra spice.
- Ensure the oil temperature remains consistent for even cooking.
