Delicious apple crisp bars with a buttery shortbread crust.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 6 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Make the crust: Combine flour, sugar, and salt in a bowl. Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Press into a 9×13 inch pan.
  3. Bake crust for 15 minutes.
  4. Make the filling: Toss apples with brown sugar, oats, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  5. Sprinkle filling over the baked crust.
  6. Make the topping: Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over the apples.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown.
  8. Let cool completely before cutting and serving.
