Description
Delicious apple crisp bars with a buttery shortbread crust.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 6 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Make the crust: Combine flour, sugar, and salt in a bowl. Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Press into a 9×13 inch pan.
- Bake crust for 15 minutes.
- Make the filling: Toss apples with brown sugar, oats, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Sprinkle filling over the baked crust.
- Make the topping: Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over the apples.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Let cool completely before cutting and serving.
Notes
- For best results, use a mix of apple varieties.
- You can add a drizzle of caramel before serving.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container.
