Description
A spooky and fun Halloween pasta dish featuring spaghetti with mozzarella ‘eyeballs’. Perfect for a themed dinner party or a festive meal for kids.
Ingredients
- 1 pound spaghetti
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup heavy cream (optional, for a creamier sauce)
- 8 ounces fresh mozzarella balls (ciliegine or small bocconcini)
- Black olives, pitted and sliced (for pupils)
Instructions
- Cook spaghetti according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
- While the pasta cooks, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Pour in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, and basil. Season with salt and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10-15 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.
- If using, stir in the heavy cream for a richer sauce.
- To create the ‘eyeballs’, place a slice of black olive onto each mozzarella ball.
- Add the cooked spaghetti to the sauce and toss to coat evenly.
- Serve the spaghetti in bowls. Top each serving with a few mozzarella ‘eyeballs’.
Notes
- For extra spookiness, add a few drops of black food coloring to the sauce.
- You can also use small meatballs as an alternative to mozzarella eyeballs.
- Ensure the mozzarella balls are small enough to resemble eyeballs.
