Ingredients
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup packed light brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup milk
- For the Glaze:
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Optional: Sprinkles
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- Spread half of the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
- Spread the remaining batter over the first layer.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the bars cool completely in the pan before glazing.
- While the bars are cooling, prepare the glaze. In a medium bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Once the bars are completely cooled, pour the glaze over the top and spread evenly.
- If desired, add sprinkles while the glaze is still wet.
- Cut into bars and serve.
Notes
- Ensure your butter is softened but not melted for the best texture.
- Do not overmix the batter after adding the dry ingredients.
- Allow the bars to cool completely before glazing to prevent the glaze from melting off.
- Store leftover bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
