Ingredients
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 lb chicken sausage, sliced
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 ½ cups orzo pasta
- 3 cups chicken broth
- 1 head broccoli florets
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- Optional: grated Parmesan cheese for serving
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Heat olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the sliced chicken sausage and cook until browned on both sides. Remove sausage from skillet and set aside.
- Add chopped onion to the same skillet and cook until softened, about 3-5 minutes.
- Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
- Stir in the orzo pasta, coating it in the oil and aromatics.
- Pour in the chicken broth, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
- Return the browned sausage to the skillet.
- Stir in the broccoli florets.
- Cover the skillet tightly with foil or a lid.
- Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the orzo is cooked through and the liquid is mostly absorbed.
- Remove from oven, stir, and serve hot, topped with Parmesan cheese if desired.

- You can substitute other vegetables like bell peppers or peas.
- For a spicier dish, use hot chicken sausage or add red pepper flakes.
