Description

Simple one-pan Chinese Beef and Broccoli recipe.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound beef sirloin, sliced
  • 1 head broccoli, cut into florets
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, minced
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Cooked rice, for serving


Instructions

  1. Slice beef into thin strips.
  2. Toss beef with cornstarch.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a pan.
  4. Sear beef until browned. Remove and set aside.
  5. Add sesame oil, garlic, and ginger. Cook briefly.
  6. Add broccoli and water. Steam until tender-crisp.
  7. Whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, and red pepper flakes.
  8. Pour sauce over broccoli.
  9. Return beef to the pan.
  10. Cook until sauce thickens.
  11. Serve over rice.

Notes

  • Adjust spice level with red pepper flakes.
  • Use flank steak as an alternative to sirloin.
  • Add carrots or bell peppers if you like.
