Description

A classic apple pie served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.


Ingredients

  • 1 recipe for pie crust
  • 6 cups thinly sliced apples (about 6 medium)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (for topping)
  • Vanilla ice cream, for serving


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Line a 9-inch pie plate with one pie crust.
  3. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with 3/4 cup sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  4. Pour the apple mixture into the prepared pie crust.
  5. Dot the top of the apples with the small pieces of butter.
  6. Cover with the second pie crust. Crimp the edges to seal. Cut vents in the top crust.
  7. Brush the top crust with the beaten egg wash and sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of sugar.
  8. Bake for 15 minutes.
  9. Reduce oven temperature to 375°F (190°C) and continue baking for 35-45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  10. Let the pie cool for at least 30 minutes before serving.
  11. Serve warm slices of pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

  • Use a mix of apple varieties for best flavor.
  • If the crust starts to brown too quickly, loosely tent it with aluminum foil.
