  • 1 pound elbow macaroni
  • 1/2 cup butter

  • 4 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyere cheese


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the macaroni according to package directions until al dente. Drain well and set aside.
  3. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  4. Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the salt, pepper, cheddar cheese, and Gruyere cheese until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth.
  6. Add the drained macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir to combine.
  7. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until bubbly and lightly browned on top.
  9. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
