Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup bow tie pasta
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese


Instructions

  1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess grease.
  2. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
  4. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce.
  5. Add the beef broth, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
  6. Bring the soup to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  7. Add the bow tie pasta to the simmering soup.
  8. Cook according to pasta package directions, or until the pasta is al dente, about 8-10 minutes.
  9. Ladle the soup into bowls.
  10. Top each serving with shredded mozzarella cheese and grated Parmesan cheese.
