Ingredients
- Chicken Sausage
- Orzo
- Heavy Cream
- Parmesan Cheese
- Olive Oil
- Onion
- Garlic
- Chicken Broth
- Salt
- Pepper
Instructions
- In a large, deep skillet or Dutch oven, heat a tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the sliced chicken sausage and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until it’s nicely browned on all sides. Transfer the sausage to a plate and set aside.
- Reduce the heat to medium and add the diced onion to the same pan. Cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onion is translucent and softened.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute, or until fragrant.
- Add the orzo to the pan and toast it for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly, to bring out its nutty flavor.
- Slowly pour in the chicken broth, making sure to scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to medium-low and let the orzo cook for 10-12 minutes, or until it’s tender and the liquid is mostly absorbed.
- Once the orzo is cooked, stir in the heavy cream and Parmesan cheese. Taste and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
- Finally, add the cooked chicken sausage back to the pan and gently stir to combine everything. Let the dish simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
