Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract


Instructions

  1. Whisk together flour and salt in a medium bowl.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in orange zest, cardamom, and vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Divide the dough in half, shape each half into a disc, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. On a lightly floured surface, roll out one disc of dough to 1/4-inch thickness.
  8. Cut out star shapes using a cookie cutter.
  9. Place stars on prepared baking sheets, about 1 inch apart.

  11. Let cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
