Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup peppermint chips
  • 1/2 cup crushed candy canes


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt butter and unsweetened chocolate over low heat. Stir until smooth. Remove from heat.
  3. Stir granulated sugar into the chocolate mixture.
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  7. Fold in the peppermint chips.
  8. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs attached.
  10. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan.
  11. Once cooled, sprinkle the crushed candy canes over the top.
  12. Cut into squares and serve.
