A simple and delicious French dessert featuring fresh cherries baked in a custard-like batter.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds fresh cherries, pitted
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted, plus more for greasing the dish
- Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish with butter.
- Place the pitted cherries in the prepared dish.
- In a bowl, whisk together the sugar, flour, and salt.
- Whisk in the eggs, then gradually add the milk and vanilla extract.
- Stir in the melted butter.
- Pour the batter over the cherries.
- Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the clafoutis is golden brown and set.
- Let it cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar (optional) and serving.
Notes
- You can use frozen cherries; thaw and drain them before using.
- For a richer flavor, use half-and-half or heavy cream instead of milk.
- Serve warm or at room temperature.
