Description

A simple and delicious butter chicken recipe you can make at home quickly. This dish is creamy, flavorful, and perfect for a weeknight meal.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 tablespoons Ghee
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (or to taste)
  • 1 (15 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped, for garnish


Instructions

  1. Heat ghee in a large skillet or pot over medium-high heat.
  2. Add chicken and cook until browned on all sides. Remove chicken from skillet and set aside.
  3. Add onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in garlic and ginger and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
  5. Add cumin, coriander, turmeric, and cayenne pepper. Cook, stirring, for 30 seconds.
  6. Pour in crushed tomatoes and bring to a simmer.
  7. Return chicken to the skillet. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes, or until chicken is cooked through.
  8. Stir in heavy cream, yogurt, and lemon juice.
  9. Season with salt to taste.
  10. Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.

Notes

  • Serve with rice and your favorite vegetables.
  • For a milder flavor, reduce or omit the cayenne pepper.
  • Yogurt can be substituted with sour cream.
