Description
A simple and delicious butter chicken recipe you can make at home quickly. This dish is creamy, flavorful, and perfect for a weeknight meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 2 tablespoons Ghee
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (or to taste)
- 1 (15 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup plain yogurt
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro, chopped, for garnish
Instructions
- Heat ghee in a large skillet or pot over medium-high heat.
- Add chicken and cook until browned on all sides. Remove chicken from skillet and set aside.
- Add onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in garlic and ginger and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
- Add cumin, coriander, turmeric, and cayenne pepper. Cook, stirring, for 30 seconds.
- Pour in crushed tomatoes and bring to a simmer.
- Return chicken to the skillet. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes, or until chicken is cooked through.
- Stir in heavy cream, yogurt, and lemon juice.
- Season with salt to taste.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
Notes
- Serve with rice and your favorite vegetables.
- For a milder flavor, reduce or omit the cayenne pepper.
- Yogurt can be substituted with sour cream.
