Description
These snowball cookies are a classic holiday treat. They are incredibly tender and melt in your mouth. Perfect for cookie plates and can be made ahead.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar, plus more for dusting
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup finely chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and 1/2 cup powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined.
- If using nuts, stir them in.
- Roll dough into 1-inch balls and place on ungreased baking sheets.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden. Do not overbake.
- Let cookies cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once completely cool, generously dust with powdered sugar.
Notes
- For a finer texture, sift the powdered sugar before dusting.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
- These cookies freeze well before rolling in powdered sugar for dusting.
