Description

These snowball cookies are a classic holiday treat. They are incredibly tender and melt in your mouth. Perfect for cookie plates and can be made ahead.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar, plus more for dusting
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and 1/2 cup powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined.
  6. If using nuts, stir them in.
  7. Roll dough into 1-inch balls and place on ungreased baking sheets.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden. Do not overbake.
  9. Let cookies cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Once completely cool, generously dust with powdered sugar.

Notes

  • For a finer texture, sift the powdered sugar before dusting.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
  • These cookies freeze well before rolling in powdered sugar for dusting.
