Ingredients

  • 1 (14.1 ounce) angel food cake mix
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pound fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (optional)


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare angel food cake mix according to package directions, adding vanilla extract.
  3. Pour batter into an ungreased angel food cake pan.
  4. Bake for the time specified on the cake mix box.
  5. Let the cake cool upside down on a wire rack.
  6. While the cake cools, slice strawberries.
  7. If desired, sprinkle strawberries with sugar and let them macerate.
  8. Once the cake is cool, gently remove it from the pan.
  9. Top with sliced strawberries and serve.
