Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • For the Frosting:
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: Sprinkles


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Spread the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the center is set.
  8. Let the bars cool completely in the pan before frosting.
  9. To make the frosting, beat the softened butter until smooth.
  10. Gradually add the powdered sugar, alternating with the milk, until the frosting reaches your desired consistency. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  11. Spread the frosting evenly over the cooled sugar cookie bars.
  12. Add sprinkles if desired.
  13. Cut into bars and serve.
