A warm and comforting apple crisp with a crunchy oat topping, perfect for Thanksgiving.
Ingredients
- 4 cups sliced apples
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, 1/4 cup of the brown sugar, and the cinnamon. Toss to coat the apples evenly.
- Pour the apple mixture into an 8×8 inch baking dish.
- In a separate bowl, combine the rolled oats, flour, the remaining 1/4 cup brown sugar, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the apples.
- Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbly.
- Let it cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
- You can add a pinch of nutmeg to the apple mixture for extra flavor.
- For a nuttier topping, add 1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts to the oat mixture.
