Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 pint fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for strawberries)
  • Whipped cream, for serving


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the milk until just combined.
  5. Gently fold the dough onto a lightly floured surface.
  6. Pat the dough to about 1-inch thickness.
  7. Use a biscuit cutter to cut out rounds.
  8. Place biscuits on a baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown.
  9. While biscuits bake, combine sliced strawberries and sugar. Let them macerate.
  10. Split warm biscuits.
  11. Add strawberries and whipped cream.
  12. Serve and enjoy your strawberry shortcake.
