Description

This recipe yields a classic southern peach cobbler with a sweet peach filling and a soft, cake-like topping.


Ingredients

  • 6 cups fresh or frozen peach slices
  • 1 cup granulated sugar, divided
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup whole milk


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine peach slices, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, 2 tablespoons flour, and vanilla extract. Stir gently to combine.
  3. Pour the peach mixture into a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  4. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together 1 cup flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. In another small bowl, whisk together the remaining 1/2 cup granulated sugar, melted butter, and milk.
  6. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined; do not overmix.
  7. Spoon the batter evenly over the peach mixture in the baking dish.
  8. Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  9. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • If using frozen peaches, do not thaw them before mixing.
