Description
A simple and delicious classic stuffing recipe perfect for your Thanksgiving dinner. This recipe uses common ingredients and is easy to prepare.
Ingredients
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
- 2 cups chopped yellow onion (about 1 large)
- 1 1/2 cups chopped celery (about 3 ribs)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried sage
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/4 teaspoon dried rosemary, crushed
- 12 cups cubed day-old bread (about 1 1/2 loaves)
- 2 cups low-sodium chicken broth, plus more if needed
- 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and celery. Cook until softened, about 8-10 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic, salt, pepper, sage, thyme, and rosemary. Cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
- In a large bowl, combine the cubed bread and the cooked vegetable mixture.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the chicken broth and beaten eggs.
- Pour the liquid mixture over the bread and vegetables. Gently toss to combine, ensuring all bread cubes are moistened. Add more broth if needed for desired consistency.
- Transfer the stuffing to a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for another 10-15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and slightly crisp.
Notes
- Use day-old bread for the best texture. Stale bread absorbs moisture better.
- If you prefer a moister stuffing, add a little more chicken broth.
- For a crispier topping, broil for the last minute or two, watching carefully to prevent burning.
