This classic southern peach cobbler features a sweet peach filling topped with a buttery, golden crust.

Ingredients

  • 6 cups fresh or frozen peach slices
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon coarse sugar (for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine peach slices, 1 cup sugar, 1/4 cup flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss gently to combine.
  3. Pour the peach mixture into a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  4. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Cut in the cold butter with a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. Stir in milk and vanilla extract until just combined to form a soft dough.
  7. Drop spoonfuls of the dough evenly over the peach filling.
  8. Sprinkle the coarse sugar over the top of the dough.
  9. Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the peach filling is bubbly.
  10. Let cool slightly before serving.
