Description
A simple and delicious sheet cake version of the classic strawberry shortcake.
Ingredients
- 1 box yellow cake mix
- Ingredients listed on cake mix box (eggs, oil, water)
- 1 pound fresh strawberries, sliced
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups heavy whipping cream
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- Prepare cake mix according to package directions.
- Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for time specified on box.
- While cake is baking, combine sliced strawberries and granulated sugar in a bowl. Let sit for at least 15 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, whip heavy cream until soft peaks form.
- Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract; whip until stiff peaks form.
- Let cake cool completely.
- Top cake with macerated strawberries and whipped cream.
- Slice and serve.
Notes
- For best results, use fresh, ripe strawberries.
- You can substitute store-bought whipped cream.
- Cake can be made a day ahead.
